The poetic Czech landscape
Čapí Hnízdo is set in a typical Czech landscape. The view, over pastures and meadows to forests rising to the horizon, creates a magical impression. Peace and harmony radiate from the surrounding countryside, helping you forget your everyday worries and and giving you pleasant memories of time spent in touch with nature.
Nature reserves, castles and chateaux
Čapí Hnízdo is located in the Džbány-Žebrák Nature Park, where you can see protected species of stork, rare kingfishers, tree frogs and nimble otters.
The surrounding countryside has the character of foothills. There are vast tracts of forest and meadows with ponds. The nearby Podhrázský nature reserve is an important stop for migrating waterfowl.
The neighboring region has castles that are accessible to the public. You can visit Konopiště, the ostentatious final residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, or Šternberk Castle, once home to one of the most important Czech noble families.
Čapí Hnízdo offers personal encounters with nature – something those of us who live in a modern, fast-paced world often lack. Here we raise many kinds of thoroughbred horses, cattle, sheep and goats, as well as llamas and a variety of rabbits. Our Tyrolean Haflinger horses are our pride and joy, regularly ranking among the best at international horse shows. Our pastures and stables are home to English thoroughbreds, Kladrubers and Irish Cobs. Children will enjoy the ponies, livestock and a variety of other animals in our small Labyrinth Zoo, adjacent to our Eco-Center. (link to "Eco-Center")
Labyrinth Zoo and nature trail
Nature means a lot to us. Its diverse wealth must be protected. That’s why, in cooperation with the non-profit organization Fauna Protection of the Czech Republic, we opened the Čapí Hnízdo Eco-Center. The Eco-Center offers instruction and environmental education to hotel guests and the public.
The Eco-Center includes a nature trail through various habitats, exhibits of livestock and wildlife, and our own Labyrinth Zoo, where we care for injured birds from far and wide, as well as otters, foxes and wild boars.
